June 2006
The Beginning
Clan of Doom started out in June of 2006, by Harry (Hazz), myself (Neon Knight) and Alain (C), an idea spawned during a particularly long and dull class of Design and Technology, in the dusty old hell-town of Witney, in Oxfordshire, in the United Kingdom. Once an idea soon became reality with Harry setting up a Counter-Strike Source dedicated server on his PC, which Alain and myself would join, (the map was almost always mcdonalds-mds), we tagged up with brand new clantags designed by myself and spray tags designed by Alain, and we'd waste all of our time enjoying admin privileges and flying around the map.
February 2007
After a lot of inactivity
Sam (Kirky), Jack (fo0xcr4f7) and Liam (LiaM) joined the clan, after creation of our invisionfree forum and we decided to set up a dedicated box for the server which, on one boring summer's day, we cobbled together with old computer parts we had lying about. We set that up in my wardrobe, just sitting there generating heat and lag-spikes and generally giving everybody a pretty miserable game on our server.
June 2007
First rented game server
So we started taking donations for a server rental. It was just 6 of us donating, and we had rented ourselves a small 16 slot, 66 tick server from Invision-Gaming and with that the madness of recruiting began. With that also came a new Website, www.clanofdoom.co.uk (bye-bye, freewebs!) and we started taking part in matches, which we almost always lost.
November 2007
More game servers
It was then we started looking into renting other servers out for the clan and community, so we started off with a gungame server, and soon after a zombie server. Over the next few months we accepted new members and kept the game fun and enjoyable for all our members.
January 2008
Major server expansion
With more members signing up everyday came the need for more servers! So we ended up renting an actual dedicated server and simply installing whatever servers we wanted onto it, which ended up being the easier, cheaper option. And finally, new phpbb3 forums arrived with our new server, and that's how the Clan of Doom community really started to kick off, enabling us to move forward further.
June 2008
Additional games
From the rapid growth, Clan of Doom decided to move into Team Fortress 2. The 2fort, Dustbowl, Goldrush server was born. This put another popular game behind us, bringing new members and more enjoyable gaming for our members and public players.
October 2008
TF2 success
Since the first TF2 server went up, it had crashed down the server ranks and is ranked one of the top in the UK TF2 servers. To continue and expand into TF2, we setup another TF2 server and continue to provide high quality servers for the community.
November 2008
First sponsor
The last few months have been a blast with TF2, the next step was to create new opportunities and with the real explosion of traffic and members to Clan of Doom, we present our first sponsor, 5wire.co.uk offering professional, quality webhosting. Helping us to move forward, providing the ultimate gaming experience for our community and opening doors for a truely exciting future.
December 2008
New server host
Over the last month we had experienced a massive increase in members once again which took us by surprise. So after discussion we decided to move over to a new dedicated server host called Xone-Gaming allowing us to host more servers in the near future at a very high standard. Apart from this it would also enable us to create more links with companies, further assisting us in giving our community a gaming experience like no other.
January 2009
Second sponsor
After hosting our servers with Xone-Gaming for over a month we had experienced very little downtime and couldn't believe the quality of the dedicated server. So following discussion with them we secured a sponsorship which bought along a 1000FPS match server and another great company to have at our side.
March 2009
Technical issues
Over the last few months server activity had been the busiest it has ever been, having the very top ranked TF2 servers in the country was a major achievement. Although, shortly we encountered problems with our servers being delisted, meaning players couldn't join our servers! Because of this we had all our servers moved over to a new IP, allowing us to continue with our high quality servers but with a slight set back along the way.
May 2009
Usual operation of doom
From the previous set back in March the last month had been quiet compared to usual, but because of our loyal community we pulled together and got things back to normal in no time. Clan of Doom back on track from the small slip up, we carried on what we do best, provide high quality gaming for our community and further improve on this.
June 2009
The need for more
More members, more traffic means more servers! A total of 4 TF2 servers and 3 CSS servers mean't we could provide our superior gaming experience to over 170 players at once. This being made possible by generous donators and our close community. Nothing can stop us now!
Overview
We rarely reject applications to join the clan, and we continue to maintain a less-serious attitude, keeping a game as a game, more for fun than anything else. We keep an active, working forum, a community in its own right, and we welcome any members who choose to apply. We recruit new members every week, and the forums are becoming a very busy place indeed. Our numerous servers always stay active, and you certainly will enjoy your stay in our fun-loving community.
